「觀景窗 Outside In」由洛斯特．霍格曼 Roast Hoggmann、尼可拉斯．巴諾．甘迺迪 Nicholas Bono Kennedy、凱莉絲．瑞德Caris Reid 和王昱文 Yu Wen Wang 四位現居南加州的藝術家聯合展出— 囊括油畫、水彩、筆墨等小品平面作品，描繪紀錄了藝術家的落腳與藏身處，那些豐沛的水土風光對身體和心理的滋養與療癒。風光明媚的加州，除了既定印象中的棕櫚樹與海灘，亦有著在兩小時車程內可看見沙漠到海灘、褐黃色巨岩與仙人掌、或是被白雪覆蓋的湖邊與冷杉的地形與風貌。在這樣能量豐沛的自然生態與光線對比強烈的環境中，藝術家所觀察到的生命力與自然現象，亦對他們的身心靈產生巨大的影響。
Nicholas Bono Kennedy在旅遊中以印象完成的油畫寫生創作；Roast Hoggmann每天長跑中觀察到的景色並以墨水勾勒或粉彩紙上作品；Caris Reid透過觀察花鳥植物來描繪肉身與精神世界的連結；或是Yu Wen Wang描繪生活中人造物和自然物的互動與交織，此次展出的小尺幅作品旨在呈現人和大自然間相互交流的細膩與親密感。
無論承襲20世紀初加州印象畫派 (California plein air) 的脈絡、寫意或風格化的平面作品，藝術家透過一筆一墨勾勒或是顏料堆疊的時數與技法，反映出將風景或所觀察到的生命力量細細咀嚼再轉化的吸收與釋放，和身處所在地融合為一的脈動與感謝。彷彿捧在手中的一本日記，窺見藝術家內心的同時也讓我們感受到徜徉在大自然中的那種寧靜與震撼。

About the Artists
洛斯特．霍格曼 Roast Hoggmann 現居南加州橘郡。他的作品包括油畫、紙上作品與雕塑。霍格曼於2011在印第安納州立大學藝術學系取得 BFA 和藝術史學位，並曾在加州洛杉磯Craig Krull畫廊展出個展。他的作品曾在台北福爾摩沙藝術博覽會 (2021)、台北藝術博覽會 (2021)、台北瞧瞧藝術和台中的養心藝術空間展出。
他的風景畫來自於在加州各處跑步和旅途中所感受到的寧靜時刻。無論是獨自在大自然中長跑或和家人一同旅行所看見的風景，皆是讓藝術家體悟到大自然的力量與美的時刻。霍格曼所精心創作的繪畫和紙上作品，同時也是向有著悠久歷史、在美國西岸上下所發展出的加州印象畫派 (California Impressionism) 致敬。這些創作的靈感元素如同我們在戶外所經歷的感受，體現在充滿生命力與呼吸的作品上，讓觀者想到大自然中走走。
Roast Hoggmann (b. 1989, Indianapolis, IN) currently lives and works in Orange County, California. He works in paintings, works on paper and sculptures. He received a BFA in Painting from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has shown with Craig Kroll Gallery (Los Angeles), Art Formosa and Art Taipei (2021) with Gallery x Chiao (Taipei, Taiwan) and Artnutri Gallery (Taichung, Taiwan).
尼可拉斯．巴諾．甘迺迪 Nicholas Bono Kennedy 是現居洛杉磯的畫家。他出生於阿拉巴馬州的波明罕，並於2014年在亞特蘭大藝術學院取得藝術學士。他在動畫界工作十餘年，以此工作經驗訓練出就地取材觀察，並且繪畫紀錄周遭環境的習慣。在過去幾年間甘迺迪開始將工作中心著重在當代繪畫。他的作品曾在位於洛杉磯的Hashimoto Contemporary以及Spring/Break Los Angeles展出。
他的繪畫靈感來自他目前位於洛杉磯的家。此次展出的六件小品油畫來自他對生活周遭的觀察及探索。主題囊括了沙漠中的植物生態 — 從俯瞰約書亞樹的巨岩、乃至加州奧哈伊 (Ojai, California) 的棕梠樹與磅礴的山脈所形成的強烈對比。兩件小品花卉系列則是他在洛杉磯各個植物園所觀察到的玫瑰寫生，最後帶回工作室憑著記憶完成細節。甘迺迪的創作精髓聚焦在繪畫形式上所注重的顏色、光線和紋路等元素的互動，以及其如何塑造我們視線所及的世界。他希望透過這些作品帶給觀者呼吸新鮮空氣及身處大自然中的感受。
Nicholas Bono Kennedy draws inspiration from his current home of Los Angeles. The six paintings in this exhibition reflect his explorations. His subject matter ranges from desert biomes where giant boulders tower over Joshua trees, to Ojai where palm trees sit in stark contrast against atmospheric mountains. Also included are two floral paintings created at Los Angeles's many botanical gardens, each painting is created on location from direct observation and is later refined in the artist's studio based on memories alone. At the core of Kennedy’s practice are formal concerns such as color, light and pattern and how these elements interact and shape the visible world. The artist hopes to evoke a sense of fresh air and being outside when viewing these works. Nicholas Bono Kennedy is a painter based in Los Angeles, California. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama and received his BFA from Art Institutes Atlanta, Georgia (2014). He has been working in the animation industry for the last ten years and has made a practice of regularly painting the world around him from direct observation. The artist has prioritized contemporary painting in the last several years; he has shown his paintings in group shows at Hashimoto Contemporary (Los Angeles) and Spring/Break Los Angeles.
凱莉絲．瑞德 Caris Reid 筆下夢幻飄渺的世界充滿花朵搖曳、鏡面對稱的鳥類以及催眠性的漣漪。她的創作靈感來自對於神秘學的興趣、加州風景、大自然中的酷兒現象及禪修。這使得她的作品畫面既熟悉又神秘。每件主題探討著肉身世界和精神世界的連結，每個細節暗蘊含豐富的暗號及意義，邀請觀者靜心與潛意識交流。有平面設計背景的瑞德擅長以平塗方式運用大面積的鮮艷色塊和細節筆觸的對比，以設計感強烈的構圖和色彩方式創作繪畫。
Caris Reid is a painter based in Los Angeles, California. Reid has shown her paintings in solo exhibitions at Under the Influence (Los Angeles), Denny Dimin Gallery (New York) and Ochi Projects (Los Angeles). She has exhibited her work in two-person shows at Denny Dimin Gallery, Monya Rowe Gallery and Circuit12 Gallery and has an upcoming two-person show at Louis Buhl in the spring. Her work has been exhibited at the Untitled Art Fair in Miami, The Spring Break Art Fair in New York and Los Angeles, Art Central Art Fair in Hong Kong, Expo Chicago, The Dallas Art Fair, as well as the Intersect Art Fair in Palm Springs. She's been included in group exhibitions including The Landing Gallery in Los Angeles, Sargents Daughters in New York, Longhouse Projects in New York, O-O in Los Angeles, SEASON in Seattle, Ochi Gallery in Idaho, and The National Arts Club, New York among others. In 2016 she completed a 40 foot mural in downtown Los Angeles titled Grace and Grit. Her work has been featured in The New Yorker, The Observer, Artsy, Vogue Japan, Vogue Mexico, W Magazine, Architectural Digest, Forbes Magazine, LALA magazine and The New York Times as well as the book “Plant Magick” from the Taschen Library of Esoterica
王昱文 Yu Wen Wang 現居洛杉磯，2018年於舊金山加州藝術學院 (California College of the Arts, San Francisco) 取得藝術碩士，2014年畢業於國立嘉義大學視覺藝術學系。結合台灣本土扎實的專業繪畫訓練及赴美深造後所受的美式風格薰陶，其作品用一種幽默的角度觀看日常所見的景象和生活點滴融入在創作中，呈現一種溫柔但堅韌的畫風。
此次在瞧瞧藝術展出的作品主題Urban Nature系列，旨在呈現藝術家居住於洛杉磯所觀察到的自然物與人造物之間看似和諧又扎眼的共存現象，希望藉由畫面帶給觀者虛實交錯之間、既近乎寫實又些許違和的狀態。我們能否在這種相互牽制的畫面中明確找到好與壞的界線？即使是兩個極端的事物，在同一畫面也可能展現出一種美好；這些看似矛盾的存在，或許也是一種不突兀的契合。
Urban Nature傾向於以一種全新的角度看待身邊的場域，加以擬人的感受帶入周遭的人事物。其中明顯存在的、或不起眼的，也許都沒有主觀感知中那般無法接受。即使這些現象儘管難以接受，卻仍具有其合理性和美感。Urban Nature系列以微幻的視角呈現現實中那些支離破碎的不完美，厚重的顏料層層堆疊、打破畫布的邊界，呈現時間及情緒流動並積累堆疊的感受。王用柔和的藝術家濾鏡呈現這個充滿人造與自然的環境中，看似不合理卻和諧的共存畫面；就如同生活中那些看似不合時宜卻又彼此互相接受的人事物。
Yu Wen Wang (b. 1990, Taiwan) holds an MFA from California of the Arts San Francisco (2018) and a BFA from National Chiayi University Taiwan (2013). While years of professional training in traditional painting she received in Taiwan allows for strong painting techniques; studying contemporary painting in the United States has influenced her to observe her surroundings and daily life with a newfound, humorous perspective, which can be seen in her paintings where tenderness and tenacity coexist.
